I ended up titling the above piece (Inspirations) From My Father. I composed it completely disconnected from my father during the last months of his life as part of my Inspirations series. However, it was during the process of reflection around my father's passing that I realized how this piece not, in fact, have come into being without him, including:

• biking

• a calm, patient, curious observation of the world around him

• a connection to water/the ocean

• a conviction that children do not need to be "taught", but will find their own way if we just expose them to ideas
